Repair or replace? Gutter and basement problems in Lawrence
Not every leaking gutter needs replacing, and not every wet basement starts at the gutter. We sort out which is which before quoting.
Leaks at seams and corners
Older sectional gutters leak at their joints. Some can be resealed; others are too far gone.
Fascia gone soft behind the gutter
Years of drips leave the board spongy, and the gutter starts pulling away from the house.
Water seeping in where floor meets wall
When outside drainage isn’t enough, water can push through at the base of basement walls.
Downspouts that end in the flower beds
Beds next to the house trap water against the foundation, especially in slow-draining clay soil.
The Celtic Way in Lawrence: follow the water
We start outside, because that’s where most water problems begin, and only move inside when the outside is already handled.
- Inspect gutters and fascia. We check seams, pitch, hangers and the condition of the wood behind.
- Repair what can be repaired. Reseal, rehang and replace fascia boards. Replace runs only when repair won’t last.
- Fix the discharge. Move downspout water out of the beds with buried drainlines.
- Handle the basement if needed. Interior French drains and a sump pump for water that still gets in.

Lawrence gutter and basement questions
Can my gutters be repaired instead of replaced?
Often. If the metal is sound and the problems are a few leaking joints or loose hangers, repair is usually the sensible choice. We’ll show you what we find and quote repair when it will last.
Do I need an interior French drain or just better gutters?
Start outside. If water is landing at the foundation, fix that first. If the basement still takes on water after that, an interior drain and sump are the next step.
How do I know if my fascia is rotten?
Peeling paint, dark stains behind the gutter, or a gutter that pulls away are common signs. We probe the wood on every visit and show you any soft spots.
