Why gutters fail on Indianapolis homes

Most gutter trouble isn’t bad luck. It’s a gutter that was the wrong size, hung on soft wood, or ends in the wrong place.

Undersized for the roof

A big or steep roof sheds more water than a 5″ gutter can carry in a hard Indiana storm, so it spills over the front.

Seams that leak and rot fascia

Sectional gutters leak at every joint. Each drip lands on the fascia board until the wood goes soft.

Downspouts dumping at the foundation

A downspout that empties next to the house sends the roof’s water straight to the basement wall.

Pitched wrong, so water sits

Gutters hung flat or sagging hold water. That means rust, ice and gutters pulling away from the house.

The Celtic Way: follow the water

We don’t just hang a new gutter. We work out where the roof’s water goes, size the system for it, and make sure it ends somewhere safe.

  1. Measure the roof and the runoff. We look at roof size, pitch and valleys, and where water already overflows or pools.
  2. Size the gutter and downspouts. 5″ or 6″ gutters, and enough downspouts, including oversized 3×4, to move the water.
  3. Form seamless runs on site. Each run is cut to the length of your wall, so there are no seams in the middle to leak.
  4. Send the water somewhere safe. Downspouts are placed to carry water away from the foundation, and tied into buried drainlines where needed.

5″ K-style seamless

A standard size for many homes with a modest roof area. A clean, classic profile.

New 6-inch white seamless gutters and downspouts on an Indianapolis home

6″ K-style seamless

Carries more water. A good fit for large or steep roofs and long runs.

Oversized 3×4 downspouts

Bigger downspouts drain the gutter faster and clog less often.

Micromesh gutter guard that blocks fine debris

Gutter guards

Add micromesh or all-debris guards when the gutters go up. See gutter guards.

Fascia comes first. A new gutter is only as strong as the board it hangs on. On every job we check the fascia, and if it’s rotten we replace it or wrap it before the gutters go up. Fascia and soffit repair.

Where the water ends up matters. If your downspouts already dump next to the house, we can run them underground with buried downspout drainlines to a pop-up emitter away from the foundation.

Gutter installation questions

How long does gutter installation take?

It depends on the size of the house and whether any fascia needs replacing. We’ll give you the timing with your written quote, after we’ve measured. Because we form seamless runs on site, there’s no waiting on factory lengths.

Should I get 5-inch or 6-inch gutters?

It comes down to how much water your roof sheds. Big, steep or valley-heavy roofs usually need 6″. We measure and recommend the size on the visit, and the quote is free.

Do you remove the old gutters?

If you’re replacing old gutters, taking them down is part of the job, and your written quote lists exactly what’s included.

Do you check the fascia first?

Every time. If the fascia is soft or rotten we show you and replace or wrap it before hanging new gutters, so they don’t pull loose later.

Fix the water problem once.

Tell us what the water is doing. We’ll come out, look at the whole path and give you a written quote. Free.
