Leaking, sagging and pulled-away gutters

A gutter rarely fails for one reason. A leak rots the fascia, the fascia lets the hangers loosen, the gutter sags and water starts sitting. Repairing one link without the others means another call next season.

Leaks at seams, corners and end caps

Sealant dries out and joints open. Each drip lands on the fascia or siding and stains or rots it over time.

Sagging between hangers

Loose or widely spaced hangers let the gutter bow. Water and debris collect in the low spot and add more weight.

Gutters pulling away from the house

Usually the fasteners have nothing solid left to hold. That often means soft fascia behind the gutter.

Bad pitch and downspout trouble

A gutter hung flat or sloped the wrong way holds water. Crushed, disconnected or short downspouts send it to the foundation.

The Celtic Way: follow the water

“Just reseal the leak” is how gutters end up repaired three times. We trace where the water is going and why, so the repair holds.

  1. Watch where the water goes. We look for drip lines, staining, overflow marks and wet spots at the foundation.
  2. Find what failed behind it. We check seams, hangers, pitch and the fascia board the gutter is fastened to.
  3. Repair the cause, not the symptom. Reseal or rebuild joints, rehang with new hangers, correct the slope, and replace soft fascia where needed.
  4. Fix the exit. Downspouts are reattached, cleared or rerouted so the water leaves the roof and keeps going away from the house.

The honest call on repair vs replace. If your gutters are seamless, sized right for the roof and mostly sound, repair is usually the better value. Fixing a few joints and rehanging a sagging run can give you years more use. Replacement starts to make more sense when sectional gutters leak at joint after joint, when the gutter is too small for the water the roof sheds, or when the metal itself is bent, rusted through or split along its length. We’ll show you what we found and tell you which side of that line you’re on. If it’s replacement, see seamless gutter installation.

Clogs are a symptom. A gutter that overflows every fall may just need cleaning. If it keeps happening, the outlet may be too small, the pitch may be off, or the tree cover may call for gutter guards. We’d rather fix the reason than come back to clear it again.

Gutter repair questions

Should I repair or replace my gutters?

If the gutters are seamless, the right size and mostly sound, repair is usually the better choice. If they leak at many joints, are undersized or the metal is damaged along the run, replacement often costs less over time. We’ll give you our honest read on the visit.

Why are my gutters pulling away from the house?

Most of the time the hangers have lost their grip because the fascia behind them is soft or rotten. Rehanging into bad wood won’t last. We check the fascia and replace or wrap it first if needed.

Why does water sit in my gutter after it rains?

Standing water usually means the pitch is off or the gutter has sagged between hangers. It can also mean a partly blocked outlet. We correct the slope and clear the outlet so the gutter drains.

Can you fix a leaking gutter corner?

Yes. Corners and end caps are common leak points. We clean the joint and reseal it, or rebuild it if the joint itself is damaged.

My downspout empties right next to the foundation. Can you fix that?

Yes. We can reattach and extend it, or run it underground in a buried PVC drainline that discharges away from the house. Where the water ends up matters as much as the gutter.
